Due to significant growth in the number of visitors and also the number of artifacts being donated to the museum we are suffering from a severe lack of space.
For a number of years we have been able to squeeze everyone and everything into the museum, however, it's not really a workable solution anymore and this past year the problem has become acute. As we continue to make strides with a number of organizations using the museum and find more all the time, this has already translated into much larger (50+) groups along with an increase in requests by local community nonprofit groups to hold events here.
We find ourselves stretched beyond capacity handling the larger number of visitors and notwithstanding that, we also need space to properly display the new material we have received and add high-security storage for items currently held off-site.
From the very beginning its always been our goal to bring history into our community as an investment for the future, therefore do not charge admission, charge to use the facility, or charge for any of our events. The museum should be freely accessible to everyone.
Donations and the support we receive from the local community and businesses handle the bulk of our operational costs, however, we never accumulate capital for projects such as this. We have never received any public or other funding and we have to date built three buildings, a large fleet of operational military vehicles, and a world-class collection of military artifacts.
The plan is to build a metal building shell on a slab 80ft x 30ft x 16ft, we just need the shell built, we will complete the interior and connect to the existing structure.
The new building will make a big difference, it will give us space to bring more of the collection to our visitors, expand our programs/activities, and manage and restore more exhibits.
